Samuel “Sam” Langston is the new owner of Big River after Tim Fleming sells it.

History[]

Sam is first introduced when he comes over to Heartland to introduce himself to Jack Bartlett and Tim Fleming as the new owner of Big River. Upon seeing Champ, he expressed interest in buying him, but Tim wasn't interested in selling him. He then mentions interst in buying a horse among the wild herd that they had on their land. Amy introduces him to various horses and the one he liked, he nicknamed Caz after his old childhood horse. However after Amy couldn't tame him, he didn't fight her on it.

After he refused to let Tim onto his property to search for Champ when he went missing, Tim used a drone to search the property. Sam didn't know that it was Tim's drone, but he did shoot it down.

When Amy spots the wild stallion who she helped with Ty becoming injured, her family went looking by the fence line for the horse. Tim and Jack hear a noise while by the fence line. They then open the gate and sneak onto the property where they learn that he was hitting baseballs on his own field. Upon their return home, they begin googling him, resulting in them learning that he was a former professional baseball player who had been suspended from playing baseball forever after getting involved in a gambling scandal.

When they approach him about using his property for a charity softball game, Sam was angered that they trespassed and yelled at them. They approach him again, this time with Caleb Odell, to convince him to let them use the field and to play. He agreed to let them use the field, but refused to play. In between innings, Sam is seen helping Caleb swing the bat and later he joins Amy and Lou's team, hitting the ball. He then offered to help split the rest of the money needed to fix the rodeo grounds. He then approaches Amy and is talked into allowing the black stallion a place to stay. (Outsiders)

Sam is among those who compete in the Lumberjack games in Brand New Day.

In the last episode of season 16, he is thought to be a potential lover for Amy.
