Lightning Dexter was a racehorse originally owned by Lisa, bought from her by Tim.
Season 3[]
Dexter came from excellent blood lines and had some early wins, but started refusing at the starting gate. Unable to get to the root of the problem, Lisa begs Amy to help. Amy is too over-booked with other client horses, so Lisa ruefully decides to sell him as a well-bred pleasure horse. Tim, however, sees this as an opportunity to get into horse racing since Lisa would be selling Dexter well below his worth as a racer. Once the deal is made, Tim immediately gets Amy to try to fix his gate-refusal issues. Amy feels extremely guilty since she already turned down Lisa's request, but now feels incapable of saying "no" to her dad. Lisa feels betrayed, and this puts the two at odds with each other. Eventually, Amy and Ty discover that Dexter's jockey, Liam, had been using a buzzer on him to shock him at the starting gate during his earlier races so he would get a jump on the other horses. (Buzzers are illegal in horse racing.) Lisa initially does not want to entertain Amy's accusations, until Jack begs her to look into it. When she does, she finds a few buzzers among Liam's possessions. She fires him and reports him to the Steward's Office. Amy and Lisa reconcile. (The Starting Gate)
3x08
Tim is at the racetrack timing Dexter on a practice run when Scott arrives. He shows him the time and they are both pleased. Lisa arrives and tries to psych out Tim and points out the Dexter's practicing against her horse Alberta Comet. Tim employs Ty to watch Dexter over night before the big race to make sure nothing happens to him. In the middle of the night Wade releases a horse to get rid of Ty and sneaks over and salts Dexter's hay and empties his water bucket. In the morning, Ty fills up his bucket since he's really thirsty and starts getting him ready for the race. Lightning starts the race in 3rd and Comet pulls ahead, Dexter drops into 5th while Comet comes into first. Coming into the final turn Dexter remains in last and loses the race. Scott checks him out and tells Tim he's fine but is water logged which is why he lost and they discover salt in the hay. (The Fix)
