Leaving a Legacy is the tenth episode in the fifteenth season of the CBC drama Heartland. It originally aired December 19, 2021.

Synopsis[]

Amy debates what to do when she receives money from an unexpected source. Lisa's racing plans are in jeopardy after an accident. Tim worries when Jessica is hiding something. Lou makes a big decision.

Plot[]

Ty's mother Lily sends Amy her racehorse Howler's winnings, which are rather substantial. Logan is considering dropping out of high school to work, so Amy offers to give him Ty's college course book. As she searches for the book, she sees a gift and card that Ty bought her for their 6th wedding anniversary. He wrote that he and Amy could leave a legacy. Because the horse therapy center is lacking the funds to stay open, Amy decides to donate some of Lily's winnings to the center, naming it the Dr. Ty Borden Equestrian Youth Centre. Clint decides to run it permanently and tells Logan that he can live and work at the center, rather than the group home if he stays in school; Logan agrees. Peter and Lou tell Katie that they are back together, and Lisa's racehorse Platinum Bow wins the Kentucky Derby.

Trivia[]

  • Aside from the recap, Lily Borden does not appear in this episode.
  • Amy feels like Lily overstepped when she receives $1,000 from her, but after seeing the gift Ty left for Amy for their 6th anniversary, she decided to use half of the money in order to leave a legacy.
    • While Amy reads the letter that Ty wrote for that anniversary, we hear the late husband's voice.
  • After the jockey's injury from Platinum Bow's panic attack over a bag nearly puts Lisa's Kentucky Derby racing plans in jeopardy, a jockey named Carlos offers to step in, eventually taking over the role and then winning the race.
  • Lou receives an Alexa in her office, which she finds more reliable than Peter.
    • Per the male's arrival, the two go on a horse trail to clear things out.
  • The thing that Jessica was hiding from Tim was a health issue that she was trying to avoid because it obviously frightens her.
    • After recent results of being in the clear, she is more than overjoyed.
  • Katie reveals that Lou and Peter not being together has been really rough on her because at the wedding from Happy Ever After, she saw the two together and felt happy again.
    • This reveals that the separation of the parents wasn't only rough on Georgie.
    • After the couple tell Katie that they've decided to start a new beginning, she is enthusiastic, and mention they will travel to Florida to tell Georgie the news.
    • Little does Katie know that Rick is the reason Peter even came back to Heartland from Paris.
  • Amy Fleming naming a horse therapy center in Heartland after her late husband resembles Elizabeth Thatcher naming the school church in Hope Valley after her late husband in When Calls the Heart.
    • In Heartland, the center is named the Dr. Ty Borden Equestrian Youth Centre while in When Calls the Heart, the church was named the Jack Thornton School.
  • Logan has the thought of dropping school entirely in order to work at the horse therapy center, but seeing Ty's college work from Amy motivates him to keep going.
    • Clint then decides to offer him a job working at the center on the condition that he will finish school in Hudson, especially since he is close to graduating.
  • Peter's proposal to Lou at the end involves lighting a lantern to send to the sky.
    • Since starting kindergarten is a big step for Lyndy, Amy encourages her to make a wish when they see what they think is a falling star, flying lantern in reality, in the sky.
