Brad Borden was Ty's father.
Brad is first heard of when Ty get's a message from him, asking for help. Ty abandons Amy just when their relationship is starting to develop to go help his dad.
His dad ends up actually having abandoned Ty. Ty is left to fend for himself against a group of nasty men who Brad owes money to. He lured Ty there in hope Ty would help him out with money, except instead Ty gets beaten day in day out, and little does Brad care. Luckily, Jack helps Ty and picks him up, taking him away from the men.
His first actual appearance was in the middle of the night, bringing a cattle truck full of starving, dehydrated horses, heading to the slaughterhouse. One of the horses in fact turns out to be Apollo, Ashley's horse. Amy lets Ashley know straight away. This causes a huge fight between Ashley and her mother, Val, who sold Apollo in the first place.
At first Ty doesn't believe anything Brad says, but over Brad's short stay Ty begins to be more friendly to him. However, when Brad is about to leave, he tells Ty one day he will take him on an adventure to the Grand Canyon. Ty doesn't want to go, so he tells his dad he might do it one day, but never does.
When Brad leaves, he takes a heap of money that belonged to Lou, and flees in the night without telling anyone what he took or where he was going.
A few days later, Ty gets a letter in the mail from his father. It is a postcard with a picture of the Grand Canyon on it, on the back is written by Brad-- "I PROMISE". Ty disregards the postcard.
Brad is not seen again, Ty's mother, arrives to see Ty with news that Brad is dead. Ty pretends it doesn't matter and that he doesn't care, but really, he is very sad. Lily gives Ty Brad's ashes to spread somewhere peaceful. Ty decides to go on a road trip to Eagle Lake to spread the ashes. He chose Eagle Lake because it is where he, Lily, and Brad, had their first ever and last ever road trip before they split up when Ty was a kid.
At first Ty intended on going on the road trip with Amy, but soon he decides it is something he must do alone. Despite this, Jack follows Ty to Eagle Lake to spread the ashes. When Ty is there he admits to Jack that he misses his father. On the way home from Eagle Lake, Ty is severely injured in a motorcycle accident. Jack finds help and thankfully gets Ty home again.
