Carl was Lou's ex-fiancé.
He came to visit Lou to tell her about his new job in Chicago. He tries to convince her to take the interview at the same company. He later proposes and she says yes, until she learns he organised her interview and only proposed because it was a family firm and he told them he was engaged. She gives him the ring back and he leaves for his new life in Chicago.
